Candle Care Tips for Longer Lasting Fragrance and Enjoyment
The Art of Candle Care
A well-crafted candle deserves to be experienced at its best. Whether you're burning one of our sculptural pieces or a fragrance candle, a little intention goes a long way. These are the rituals we recommend to get the most out of every burn.
Know Your Wax
Our candles are crafted from premium wax blends — each chosen for its scent throw, burn quality, and aesthetic finish. Soy burns cooler and cleaner; beeswax has a naturally warm, honey-like tone; blended waxes are formulated for maximum fragrance performance. Understanding your candle’s composition helps you care for it properly.
Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
This is the single most impactful thing you can do. Before lighting, trim your wick to approximately ¼ inch. A properly trimmed wick produces a steady, controlled flame — no excessive flickering, no soot, no wasted fragrance.
- Cleaner burn: A trimmed wick minimizes carbon buildup and keeps your vessel pristine.
- Better scent throw: A controlled flame allows the wax pool to release fragrance evenly.
- Extended life: Proper wick maintenance adds hours to your candle’s lifespan.
The First Burn Sets the Standard
On the first light, allow your candle to burn until the entire surface has melted into a full wax pool — typically 2 to 4 hours. This prevents tunneling and ensures every subsequent burn is just as even and fragrant.
- Avoid drafts: Place your candle away from open windows, fans, or vents to maintain an even flame.
- Multiple wicks: For wider vessels, multiple wicks distribute heat evenly — look for these in our container candle range.
- Let it cool fully before relighting to preserve the wax structure and fragrance integrity.
Storage That Protects Your Investment
Fragrance is delicate. Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity — both can alter the wax and diminish the scent over time. When not in use, cover them with a dust cloth or lid to keep the surface clean and the fragrance sealed in.
- Temperature: Avoid storing near heat sources or in rooms with large temperature swings.
- Light: UV exposure can fade both the wax color and the fragrance compounds.
- Inspect periodically for any cracks or discoloration before burning.
Safety, Always
Candles are a sensory experience — but they’re also an open flame. A few non-negotiables:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from flammable materials — fabrics, paper, dried botanicals.
- Use a proper holder that can withstand heat and won’t tip.
- Extinguish with a snuffer rather than blowing out — it eliminates smoke and prevents wax splatter.
Knowing When to Let Go
Every candle has a natural end. When approximately ½ inch of wax remains in the vessel, it’s time to retire it. Burning beyond this point can overheat the container and compromise the scent. The good news? Our vessels are designed to be repurposed — clean them out and use them as planters, storage, or décor.
